Olivia Wirth is a PhD student at the Chair of Development Economics and part of the DFG Research Training Group 2720: "Digital Platform Ecosystems (DPE)". She holds a Master's degree in Economics from Ludwig-Maximilians-UniversityMunich and a Bachelor's degree in International Cultural and Business Studies from the University of Passau. During her studies, she was a research assistant at the Ifo Institute at the Centre for Economics of Education. She also gained practical experience at the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
She is interested in the effects of digitalisation on firms, smallholder farmers and household welfare in developing countries. In her doctoral thesis, she will use various data sources (geospatial data, firm-level tax data, surveys, etc.) to investigate the effects of expanding mobile phone coverage in Africa, as well as conduct a randomised field experiment to explore the potential of innovative digital platforms.
