Irene Furlani is a PhD student at the Chair of Development Economics and part of the DFG Research Training Group "Digital Platform Ecosystems" (DPE). She holds a Master's degree in Economics from University of Mannheim and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Economics with an Economics curriculum from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. During her studies, she was a research assistant for the Chair of Econometrics at the Universtity of Mannheim and at the Center for Evaluation and Development (C4ED) in Mannheim. Befre starting her PhD studies she obtained a full time position as (Junior) Research Manager at C4ED. There she obtained practical and field experience in impact evaluation especially in Sub Saharan Africa.
She is interested in the effects of digitalization and digital platform at individual, household, and SMEs level in developing countries. In her doctoral thesis, she will work with both primary and secondary data, focusing on topics related to microfinance, sexual and reproductive health, and women empowerment.
