The Chair
Professor Carolin Haeussler and her team focus their research and teaching on the intersection of organisation, technology management and entrepreneurship – a fascinating area for academia and an exciting challenge for business. We identify patterns, describe them and tackle the phenomena to be studied using business and microeconomic approaches.
Teaching
In our teaching we impart knowledge in the areas of technology and innovation management, entrepreneurship and organisation, while ensuring that our teaching reflects the state of the art and the latest methodology, which is conveyed on the basis of real-world projects. This approach allows our students to take in the theoretical fundament and apply it successfully to actual problems.
Research
We conduct research on the ‘knowledge frontier’ and present our research output in leading international journals and at prestigious conferences. Our research interests are on innovation management, R&D management, academic research organisation and policy, intellectual property management, entrepreneurship and social networks.
Our research on "Good Faith" clauses in alliance contracts published in the Strategic Management Journal
We are thrilled to announce that a research paper by Prof. Carolin Häussler on "Good Faith" clauses in strategic alliances has been published in the Strategic Management Journal! In this study, we explore why partners in collaborations include such clauses in their contracts and what role they actually play. Using computerized analysis of corporate website language, we were able to determine whether organizations share similar cognitive frames. Our data reveal that Cognitive Frame Similarity is a strong predictor for the use of "Good Faith" clauses. The more similar the companies are, the more likely they are to include such clauses. Furthermore, this effect is amplified when the collaboration occurs in environments of high technological uncertainty. However, the effect diminishes as partners gain more prior experience with alliances.

EFI report presented to Chancellor Scholz: The race to catch up must begin demands Prof. Carolin Häussler
Where do Germany and the EU stand in the field of artificial intelligence? Prof. Dr. Carolin Häussler is a member of the Commission of Experts for Research and Innovation (EFI), which presented the EFI Report 2024 to Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Federal Research Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger. Prof. Dr. Häussler is celebrating a small anniversary this year: she has been a member of the panel of innovation experts for five years.
We conducted a video interview with her about the latest report. In it, she talks about the transformation of the economy and society and the question of how Germany and the EU can position themselves in the field of AI.
Prof. Dr. Häussler advises the following measures to ensure that the fundamental transformation of the economy and society can succeed:
Government funding should be invested in infrastructure and skills development.
The search for innovative solutions should be left to industry. This requires #deregulation and a reduction in bureaucracy.
A high level of training and education is needed to secure the potential of skilled workers in the long term.
In the report, the EFI Commission also addresses the question of whether Germany is succeeding in attracting skilled workers. The committee has some good news here: the situation has indeed improved over the past ten years.
However, there is still a lot of room for improvement. To ensure that Germany and the EU do not fall behind in the AI sector, the EFI Commission believes that we need
a strong, European networked ecosystem. Prof. Dr. Häussler sees potential in open source in particular
an increase in computing capacity, but without becoming dependent on non-European players
a reduction in lengthy and complex administrative processes for the immigration of researchers
