Foundations of Human-Computer Interaction

Technology has become an integral part of our lives. From computers and websites to smart devices and wearables, each day we interact with a number of technologies that help us organize our lives, perform our work, and connect with others. Consequently, designing intuitive user interfaces (UIs) and delivering exceptional user experiences (UX) have emerged as key priorities for businesses. This course offers an introduction to the foundations of human-computer interaction and human-centered design. Topics covered will include:

  • Theoretical and conceptual foundations of human-computer interaction
  • Methods, techniques, and tools for human-centered design
  • Design principles and UX guidelines across different application areas

Learning Objectives

After successful participation in this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the theoretical and conceptual foundations that explain how humans interact with different types of technology
  • Explain the human-centered design approach and apply it to the design of user interfaces
  • Identify key design principles and UX guidelines for different application areas

In addition, students will gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art prototyping tools.
