Link between theory and its practical application

Description
Manufacturing-Execution-Systems (MES) are used in the production industry in order to create a constant flow of information between all systems involved in the process. Through this cross-linking, a higher productivity in the shop-floor level is expected. The project included a quantitative analysis through the use of MR-CM© - a MES developed and applied by the Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen - in order to identify potential productivity increases in the production process. Basically, this can be achieved through the elimination of non-value-adding interface problems between machines involved in the process. More precisely, productivity increases are obtained through shortening of set-up times of the machines, leading to reduced production costs and increased production flexibility, as well as a reduced need of tools in stock with the involved lower costs of tied-up capital.
