Dear Students,
for our summer term master course 39998: Business Book of the Year we have selected "Supremacy: AI, ChatGPT, and the Race that Will Change the World" by Parmy Olson. This book, honored as the FT 2024 Business Book of the Year, explores the development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) through the perspectives of Sam Altman of OpenAI and Demis Hassabis of DeepMind.
The text offers an analytical view into the influence that individual leaders in technology have over the trajectory of new innovations. By examining the internal dynamics at play within major tech companies, the book addresses broader themes of AI safety versus ethics, the impact of corporate power on technology development, and the strategic decisions that shape the future of AI.
This detailed account will provide a foundation for our discussions on the interplay between technology and business strategy. It raises critical questions about the role of ethics in technology and the balance of power in the tech industry.
Classes will be held in English every Wednesday from 8:30 to 10:00 AM during the summer term 2025. Please make sure you register for the course via Stud.IP (as soon as the courses are published) and acquire the book before our first meeting as it will be central to our course discussions.
