In the summer term 2025 the lecture „32420 Growth and Development“ is closely tight with the Bachelor seminar “32270 Development Economics” by Prof. Jütting. Hence, students who have an interest in the field of Development Economics and also plan to write their Bachelor Thesis in that field, are strongly encouraged to take both, the lecture and the seminar. The content of the lecture is directly relevant for the thesis seminar participants have to write. Conversely, the thesis topic will have positive synergies with the preparation of the exam in Growth and Development. Students can see this as a teaching package allowing to earn 5 ECTS through the lecture and 7 ECTS through the seminar. Seminar participants follow the lecture (except if they have done already so in a previous year), write their seminar paper on a topic handed out by Prof. Jütting and present their seminar paper after submission in a special seminar session. In that session they also listen to the presentations of other students and actively participate in the discussions.
The bachelor seminar will focus on the question of “aid efficiency in the area of contested multi-literalism” covering topics like the definition and measurement challenges of development aid, the evolution of the development assistance architecture, the assessing of aid effectiveness and a sneak preview of the post SDG framework.
